Professional Advice

Carnations are commonly referred to by their scientific name, dianthus, from the Greek for 'divine flower' or 'flower of God' and have long been a favourite choice for wedding buttonhole flowers.  Green carnations are very popular for St Patrick's Day.

They look fantastic used in pomanders, or massed tightly together in fishbowl or cube vases. In the past, carnations were only available in a limited number of colours typically, red, white or pink, which led to a fall in popularity. These days, colour possibilities are endless - some are bi-colour with contrasting edges, stripes or centres. With so many to choose from, carnations are definitely making a comeback!
